Arunava is a modern Malaysian coastal retreat dedicated to providing a sanctuary for guests to reconnect with nature, rejuvenate their spirits, and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

The Brief

Create a brand identity that blends Arunava’s tropical landscape and mission to foster experiences that leave their guests feeling renewed.

Arunava, which means “new beginnings” in Sanskrit, began with a vision for a fresh start. Nestled on the pristine shores of Mantanani Island, Sabah, the secluded resort was conceived as a sanctuary where guests can savor the simple pleasures of nature.

Embracing their mission to be a sanctuary for guests to reconnect with nature while experiencing the best of Mantanani Island, we drew inspiration from the tropical isle’s surrounding elements. We curated a warm, elemental color palette and grounding typography, complemented by distinct hand-drawn patterns inspired by palm leaves and coral. This unique combination helps establish a sophisticated, organic, and memorable visual narrative.

When it came to the primary icon, we needed to create something that was simple enough to be easily identifiable on natural materials such as bamboo and coconuts, while remaining distinct to set them apart from competitors.

We landed on a minimal yet meaningful mark that subtly incorporates key pillars of their business. At first glance, you can clearly identify the letter ‘A’ merged with a palm tree—a universal symbol of peace and tranquility, reflecting the essence of Arunava, where guests are invited to find solace in nature’s embrace.

Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice an arrow pointing upwards, symbolizing a journey toward clarity, renewal, and growth. This element nods to Arunava’s Sanskrit meaning of ‘new beginnings.’

Our goal was to create a brand experience that embodies tranquility and feels like a serene escape—a perfect blend of comfort and adventure.

Utilizing grounded typography, fresh brand textures, hand-illustrated touches, and a soft color palette, we designed a gentle visual system that harmonizes earth with elegance – ensuring Arunava’s guests enjoy a unique and unforgettable experience in the tropical oasis.
