5 Things You Should Do Before Quitting Your 9 to 5
While every journey is different and there is no perfect path, I do believe that there are steps you can take to avoid feeling under prepared or overwhelmed when making the leap into owning your own business. So, friends, I wanted to share some tips on how I made a seamless transition from working the 9-5 to following my dream.
Over a span of 2 years, I began taking on side projects to refine my process, gain experience, grow my visibility, and establish my brand. So by the time I made the transition, I was a seasoned freelance designer with confidence in the work and experience I provide each client.
Sharing my work and style online has been key in attracting my ideal audience (and clients) and Tiktok was largely the reason I was able to make the transition when I did. I created a dedicated space where I consistently share my process, personality, and services — and that’s been my primary source of steady client leads.
I saved up about 6 months of living expenses and having that safety net has given me a peace of mind to truly be able to focus on the work in front of me.
One of the biggest reasons I felt confident when I started full-time freelance was because I had work lined up and waiting for me to dive in.
The idea of being my own boss full-time didn’t become real until I gave myself a deadline. Once I put a date on my goals, it created accountability and a definitive date to work towards.
Making the transition doesn’t have to be scary or overwhelming stressful if you are strategic and take your time. Be intentional, be prepared, and you won’t regret it. Because fully trusting in the power of your dream and following your passion is one of the most freeing and rewarding experiences.
